Doublebase Emollient Gel is a highly moisturising emollient GEL that effectively manages dry skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and ichthyosis.
How Doublebase Emollient Gel differs from traditional emollient formulations:
The emollient gel formulation enhances cosmetic acceptability and behaves differently on the skin compared with conventional creams and lotions. The gel is easily absorbed into the skin, making it cosmetically acceptable. Salts in the skin break down the gel formulation in the surface layers, causing irreversible separation of the oil phase within the stratum corneum. As the oils are no longer readily redispersible in water, they provide prolonged protection against dryness even after gentle washing.
The humectant glycerol helps retain residual water from the gel formulation and reduces evaporation of water through the skin.
Doublebase Emollient Gel Evidence
Proven effective moisturisation:
In a clinical trial, 88% of patients rated the reduction in dryness and itching effect (of the Doublebase Emollient Gel formulation) as ‘Excellent’, ‘Good’ or ‘Satisfactory’. When used over multiple applications, the Doublebase Emollient Gel formulation provided a highly statistically significant increase in skin hydration compared to two cream emollients.1
Patient choice for cosmetic acceptability:
In a patient preference study*, children with atopic eczema were given a free choice of 7 different emollients. The Doublebase Emollient Gel formulation was most commonly selected as the preferred choice of emollient.2
