Warts/verrucas

About warts/verrucas

Warts and verrucas (a verruca is the Latin name for a wart, but this term is now mainly used to describe plantar warts, on the sole of the foot) are caused by a viral infection called human papilloma virus (HPV). Warts and verrucas are common, but they are also contagious and can be painful (especially on the sole of the feet and near the nails).
